Things to Do in Fairbanks This Weekend: Oct 15 to 18

October 14, 2026

Busy weekend in town. There's a musical, a 40th birthday party for one of Fairbanks' best traditions, a free concert, and, yes, a little snow. Here's the rundown.

Songs for a New World at West Valley (Oct 15 to 18)

Fairbanks Light Opera Theatre and Interior Independent Theatre are putting on Jason Robert Brown's Songs for a New World at the West Valley Performing Arts Center, 3800 Geist Road. It's billed as a Fairbanks premiere, directed by Gwen Brazier and Scott Hansen, and it's rated PG-13 for brief strong language.

  • Thursday, Oct 15 at 7 PM
  • Friday, Oct 16 at 7 PM
  • Saturday, Oct 17 at 2 PM and 7 PM
  • Sunday, Oct 18 at 2 PM

Tickets are on Eventbrite, listed from about $18 to $39 when we checked. More on FLOT's events page.

International Friendship Day turns 40 (Saturday, Oct 17)

Free, noon to 5 PM at the Alaskaland Civic Center. Expect five hours of music and dance from Chinese, Filipino, Mideastern, Cuban, Japanese, Indian, Korean, and other local groups, plus food from around the world. The Korean community is bringing a group up from Seattle this year. More in our Friendship Day post.

Free chamber music concert at Morris Thompson (Saturday, Oct 17)

International Chamber Music Alaska wraps its season with a free concert at 7 PM at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center. Donations are welcome, and there's a raffle for a tile by local artist Nancy Johnson. More in our chamber concert post.

Fun fact: you can do Friendship Day in the afternoon, grab dinner, and still make the concert downtown. That's a pretty great Saturday.

Fairbanks weekend weather: snow chances

The NWS Fairbanks forecast from Wednesday morning calls for a chance of rain and snow Thursday afternoon, snow and rain Friday, and a chance of snow Saturday with a high in the mid 30s. Sunday's high is around 30. Roads could be slick, so give yourself a few extra minutes getting to West Valley. We put together a snow prep post if you want the full picture.

Our take

This is the last stretch of fall before winter shows up for good. Get out, see a show, eat some lefse. And if you'd rather spend Saturday at Alaskaland than with a shovel, we can set up snow removal in Fairbanks or North Pole. Hosting family afterward? The Alaska Cleaning Company can get the house guest-ready before everyone shows up. Call them at 907-341-4086.
