Two Rivers is getting a new school story. The proposed HomeSTEAD Charter School, which plans to move into the building that used to house Two Rivers School, got a unanimous final yes from the Alaska Board of Education and Early Development on Wednesday after close to three years of planning. Organizers are aiming for a July 2027 opening on a calendar that starts in late July, runs through May, and sprinkles in more frequent breaks. They need at least 75 students to open and are hoping for about 100. KTVF has the full story.
Our take: it is good to see that old building out the Chena Hot Springs Road way lined up for a second life. A group of parents sticking with a project for three years, then taking the summer off to catch up on their own homesteads, is about as Interior as it gets. The next steps are hiring a head teacher and finding students and volunteers, so if you live out that way and want to know more, the organizers suggest following the school's Facebook page.
Plenty of Two Rivers families juggle the same winter list every year: firewood, a sticky door, a shed full of stuff nobody uses. Good Hand Co. can send handyman help or haul things off with junk removal in Fairbanks. And when the mudroom floors are losing the fight with boots, The Alaska Cleaning Company can put together a quote.
