The Alaska Nanooks are making a final push to replace the big scoreboard at the Carlson Center, which has been hanging there since 2006. ConocoPhillips Alaska kicked things off with a $500,000 gift, and UAF is looking for about $300,000 more from the community. The news comes alongside a new 12 year agreement between UAF and the borough to keep Nanooks hockey at the Carlson Center, with the two splitting maintenance on the new board 50/50. Our take: a 20 year old scoreboard in Fairbanks has earned its rest. When a part breaks up here, you can't just run to the store before Saturday's game, so this one makes a lot of sense. We also like that it's a community project. Give $1,000 or more and your name goes on a donor wall at the Carlson Center, which is a pretty fun way to leave your mark on Nanooks hockey for the next decade. And a 12 year deal means a lot more Friday nights of cheering in the cold.
If you're hosting the crew for a home game watch party this winter, Good Hand Co. can help clear out the garage with junk removal in Fairbanks so there's room for everybody. And when the party's over and the carpet has seen better days, The Alaska Cleaning Company can come in and get the place back in shape.
Go Nanooks!
