GVEA Drops Back to Level 0 After First Energy Alert

October 14, 2026

Golden Valley Electric Association is back to Level 0. As of about 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, GVEA says it is running under normal generation conditions and members do not need to take any action.

That is a welcome change from Monday, when GVEA issued its first Energy Emergency Alert under the new system and sat at Level 2. Level 2 means conserve and prepare for possible controlled outages. Level 0 means the co-op has enough generation on hand again.

Check the current alert status on GVEA's site.

Our take: for a brand new alert system, getting the first Level 2 in mid October was a little early for comfort. Plenty of people did the small stuff GVEA asked for, timers on block heaters, holding the dryer, turning things down a notch. Whether or not that tipped the scales, it is good to see the board back at green before the real cold settles in. Keep an eye on the page when the next cold snap hits. Habits from this week will matter more in January.

If the power scare also reminded you the furnace filter is due, a door seal is drafty, or you want a plow lined up before the next storm, Good Hand Co. can connect you with local help. And if winter grit is already tracking through the entryway, The Alaska Cleaning Company can get that sorted.
