Aurora tonight
NOAA has the Kp topping out at 4.67 around 7 PM, which is G1 storm level, then settling to 3.67 by 10 PM and holding near 3.00 after midnight. That is a high night on paper for Fairbanks, which sits right under the oval. The catch is the sky: tonight looks cloudy with rain and snow likely, so you will want breaks in the clouds if you head out.
Kp by start time (AK): 7 PM 4.67 (G1), 10 PM 3.67, 1 AM 3.00, 4 AM 3.00.

A mild Monday by late October standards, but the bigger snow looks set for Tuesday. Roads can still glaze up where melt meets freezing overnight, especially on bridges and shaded stretches.

Getting ready for winter
With snow in the forecast tonight and a heavier shot Tuesday, today is a good day to make sure the shovel, the sand bucket, and the block heater cord are where you can grab them. If you would rather not clear the driveway yourself this winter, we can line up someone local for snow removal in Fairbanks or snow removal in North Pole, and for hard pack and berm removal once the plows start leaving piles at the end of the driveway. Get bids here.
And if the snow season is already showing up on your entryway carpet, The Alaska Cleaning Company handles carpet and house cleaning around Fairbanks and North Pole.
